Maarten Van Den Heuvel
Maarten Van Den Heuval 2013
Veterinarian

After graduating in 2002 I worked in several small animal clinics in Holland before doing a 2 year stint in NZ. After returning to Holland I found the grass to be definitely greener in NZ and decided to move back to NZ to stay. I came to Gisborne in November 2011 and have been enjoying it here ever since. I’ve been a companion animal vet for over 10 years now and I still drive to work every day with a smile on my face; being a vet is the best job there is! Besides the day to day care for pets I particularly enjoy dealing with working dogs, ultrasonography, dentistry and exotic pets like rabbits.

I am married to Esther who’s also a companion animal vet and together we have 3 kids. In my spare time I enjoy the beautiful scenery NZ has to offer, photography and tinkering with model airplanes.

Meg Bichard
Veterinarian
Meg is originally from Guernsey in the Channel Islands in the United Kingdom. She completed her veterinary qualification at the University of Bristol in 2010 and moved to New Zealand soon after and didn’t want to leave! After spending the last eight years working in Nelson as a mixed and companion animal vet she fancied a change to some bigger mountains and more snow based adventures, and so moved to Queenstown, from one great place to another! She has been working for our Queenstown clinic as a locum for the last two years but has enjoyed it so much that she has accepted a permanent position. She has over ten years companion animal experience and likes working up medical cases and undertaking surgeries. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her cute cat, as well as being outdoors, mountain biking, running, climbing and kayaking.

Originally hailing from South Otago, Melissa moved back from Brisbane in late 2018 with her partner in order to be closer to friends and family as well as enjoy the benefits of living rurally. Which is something they both missed whilst living in Australia. As a qualified vet nurse she originally worked in our Wanaka clinic as the clinic coordinator, after a number of months both her and her partner decided to move further south again. Luckily a vet nurse position became available at our Alexandra clinic and Melissa was obviously the perfect fit. With 12 years vet nursing experience from around Australia and New Zealand she loves to concentrate on building clients knowledge that will then assist their pet’s wellbeing. She enjoys so many aspects of her profession, one thing in particular that she loves is helping clients understand their pet’s needs along with knowing that she can make a difference in that pet’s life herself. She appreciates that every day has something different to offer and something cute and furry to love! Outside of work she enjoys socialising with friends, outdoor adventures, playing golf and spending time with her recently acquired Jack Russell puppy called Gary.

My husband James, children Amelia and Cooper and I made the move to Ashburton in 2016 from Southland to enjoy some more sunshine hours, and be closer to our extended family in Marlborough.  We live on a Dairy Farm and love the lifestyle it gives our young family.  Outside of work and farm life we enjoy camping, fishing, spending time in the Marlborough Sounds and watching the kids play sport.
